When audio or video will not play
Browser support, autoplay rules, slow connections, and the fact that nothing is audio-only
First, the important part
No clue in this game is only in a recording. Every audio log has a full written transcript on the same page. Every surveillance clip has a full written scene description with times. If the media never plays for you at all, you can still finish the chapter and reach any ending.
Nothing plays and there is no sound anywhere
- Check the volume control in the game's own header, and check that Mute is off.
- Check your device volume and, on a phone, the physical silent switch.
- Browsers block sound until you have interacted with the page. Click or tap anywhere and try again.
A recording will not start
Recordings are MP3 and are supported by every current browser. If one will not start:
- Reload the page. A recording interrupted mid-download can leave the player stuck.
- Try the transcript. If the transcript is there, the page loaded correctly and the problem is the media file or the connection.
- If you are on a metered or restricted network, media may be blocked by a proxy while pages still load.
A surveillance clip stays black
Clips are provided as MP4 and WebM, and the browser picks whichever it supports. A clip that stays black with a working scrubber usually means the video decoded but the picture genuinely is black — two of the four clips open or end on black frames with a running timecode, and that is the footage, not a fault.
If the scrubber does not move either, reload the page.
It is very slow
Clips are between one and two and a half megabytes and load only when you select them. Recordings load when you press play. Nothing preloads the whole chapter's media.
On a slow connection, turn Data saver on in Settings. It stops posters loading until you open a clip and drops the scene backgrounds to smaller sizes. The game remains complete; it just looks softer.
Supported browsers
Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge on desktop, and Safari and Chrome on iOS and Android from roughly the last four years. Older browsers may load the site and fail on the game view.
Still wrong?
Tell us through the contact form and include your browser, your operating system, and which recording or clip it was. A one-line description of what you saw is more useful than a screenshot of a black rectangle.
