Cookies and storage

Last updated 4 August 2026.

This site uses as little browser storage as it can get away with. There is no consent wall, because almost nothing here needs consent — and the one part that does can be refused below, on this page, without breaking the game.

Your choice on this device

Advertising is the only optional thing this site loads. Turning it off here means the advertising script is never written into the page and no ad slot is rendered, so the request that would set those cookies is not made at all. It is remembered for 180 days in a cookie named adr_ads, and it applies to this browser on this device.

Currently: advertising is on — the default, because you have not chosen yet.

Advertising never appears inside a chapter, over a puzzle or over a game control, whichever way this is set. Turning it off costs you nothing in the game and costs the site a little; if you would rather support it another way, the support page explains how.

Strictly necessary

Necessary cookies
NameTypePurposeLifetime
adr_sessionCookieKeeps you signed in and carries the CSRF token that stops another site submitting forms as youSession, or 30 days if you chose to stay signed in
adr_rememberCookieSet only if you tick “keep me signed in”. Holds a rotating token, not your password60 days
ks_sidCookieCounts one visit as one session for traffic statistics. Contains a random identifier and nothing about you30 minutes of inactivity
adr_adsCookieSet only when you use the control above. Holds the single word on or off180 days

These cannot be turned off in the site, because signing in and submitting a form do not work without them. Your browser can block them; the game will then run as a guest.

Game storage in your browser

Local storage keys
KeyTypePurpose
adr.guest.saveLocal storageYour progress when playing without an account. Stays on your device unless you sign in and upload it
adr.prefsLocal storageContrast, motion, text size, dyslexia-friendly font, subtitles, volume
adr.audio.unlockedLocal storageRemembers you have allowed sound, so the game does not ask on every room
adr.sw.versionLocal storageDetects when a new version of the game has been published while you were playing

Clear these by clearing site data for adrenochrome.org, or from account settings, which has a button that wipes local game storage without touching your account. Clearing guest storage deletes guest progress permanently — that is the main reason the game keeps offering you an account.

Advertising

Unless you have turned it off above, public pages may load Google AdSense, which sets its own cookies for frequency capping, measurement and personalisation. We do not read them and we cannot see who you are through them. Control them at Google Ads Settings, or block third-party cookies in your browser. Blocking them does not affect the game in any way; advertising never appears inside a chapter.

House ads shown by the network are counted server-side as an impression and a click per slot. They set no cookie.

Support form

The contact form loads a proof-of-work widget (ALTCHA) from a public CDN to keep spam out. It sets no cookie and does not profile you; your browser simply does a small amount of arithmetic to prove it is not a script.

What is not here

  • No Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no TikTok pixel, no advertising SDK.
  • No session recording, heatmap or scroll-tracking script.
  • No cross-site identifier shared with the other sites on this network.
  • No fingerprinting for tracking. The game reads screen size to lay out the stage, and does not store it.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not personalise anything based on a profile, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off on our side. They are passed to the advertising network, which honours them under its own policy.
